The human eye can speak more powerfully than words, revealing fear, sorrow, humiliation, and helplessness. “Tear Drinkers,” painted in 2023, brings two contrasting eyes together to explore two opposing states of the human mind.
The large upper eye represents a sad, frightened, helpless, and embarrassed person. The enormous tear carries the weight of fear, suffering, and vulnerability. But for the person below, that tear becomes an opportunity.
The lower eye, surrounded by orange and red, represents a greedy, cunning, and manipulative mind. He does not look at another's suffering with compassion; instead, he watches with desire, waiting to benefit from it.
This is the meaning behind “Tear Drinkers.”
One person sheds the tears.
The other waits to drink them.
The blue tones suggest sadness, loneliness, and fear, while the orange and red evoke greed, aggression, and desire. “Drinking” is not literal—it is a metaphor for exploiting another person's pain and vulnerability.
The painting contrasts two faces of humanity: the person who suffers and the person who feeds on that suffering.
